Top Ten Things to do in Cornwall this June

1. Royal Cornwall Show, 8th – 10th of June

Cornwall’s annual Royal Cornwall Show is a country show with livestock judging, flower tents, crafts, and more. The culinary delights at this show are an attraction alone with something to tickle everyone’s taste buds, with mounds of local produce galore, including cheeses, meats, cream, fudge, ice cream, chocolates, and local wines, beers and ciders.

There are marquees full of animals from goats to birds, and rabbits to dogs along with a major dog show. There is also a traditional steam show and a motor fair, along with fairground rides.

2. Falmouth Classics Regatta and Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, 16th – 18th of June

This is a three day rally of classic sailing craft and other traditional vessels, including pilot gigs and motor boats. This event coincides with the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, which adds to the celebratory feeling in the town with music in various venues throughout Falmouth; this festival is sure to get your toes tapping and perhaps even sing-songing along!

3. Mevagissey Feast Week, 25th of June – 1st of July

Thought to be one of the longest surviving festivals in Cornwall, this fabulous festival brings the community together with many visitors to enjoy the community spirit along with live music, dances, children’s entertainment, boat races, food and drink, and a huge firework display.

4. Visit the Hall for Cornwall, various dates in June

There’s a few to choose from, including Remembering Fred – a tribute to the great dancing extraordinaire Fred Astaire. Take a magical journey back in time with dance and music. Strictly stars Aljaz and Janette preform steps from Hollywood’s golden age.

The Addams Family is a spectacular musical comedy, about everyone’s favourite spooky family, from the writers of the multi award-winning Jersey Boys. Wednesday Addams has a shocking secret – she has fallen in love with a sweet young man from a respectable family. Gomez, her father, is keeping this secret from wife Morticia until they meet for a fateful dinner with hilarious consequences.

Arthur Miller’s, Death of a Salesman, is considered to be one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century. Willy Loman is a middle-aged salesman, once successful, but unable to keep up in the changing workplace. He is on the brink of unemployment with bills to pay. His drop out son, Biff, moves home again and Willy decides to give success one last shot, but has he got what it takes? This play is about the cost of not being able to let the American Dream go.

5. Electric Beach Festival, Newquay, 16th – 17th of June

Held on Newquay’s Great Western Beach, this festival is a brilliant beach party with world-class music including hip-hop, dance, reggae and more, with the sound of the waves lapping the shore and the sand between your toes.
Enjoy mojitos, ice cold beers and cider, followed by the VIP after parties that run at the Koola Club and Chy bar, which are both only a short walk away.
6. Madness and Royal Blood at the Eden Project, 16th and 22nd of JuneMadness at Eden, Cornwall

Madness are one of the most successful British pop groups of all time, have had 15 singles in the top ten, including My Girl and Baggy Trousers, and a number one with House of Fun. From Kentish Town in London, they became a hit band of the late 70s and early 80s as a 2-Tone ska band, with 7 members fronted by Graham ‘Suggs’ McPherson.

Royal Blood hail from Brighton, aka Mike Kerr (vocals and bass) and Ben Thatcher (drums) create a huge, hard-edged sound and have received accolades from Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page.

Their debut album was widely critically acclaimed, being dubbed as saviours of British rock music. Singles include Figure It Out, Little Monster and Ten Tonne Skeleton.

7. Newquay Surf 7s – 7s Rugby Tournament, Newquay Sports Centre, 24th – 25th of June

This is the biggest Rugby Sevens event in the South West, with over 100 of the best Rugby Sevens teams from all over Europe. This exciting event also has other things to do with a rugby shop, Maxi Nutrition Fitness challenge, along with food, bars and sun (hopefully!).

8. Looe Festival of the Sea, 4th of June

In conjunction with the celebrations to mark 150 years of the Looe Lifeboat, enjoy marine related activities and music for a brilliant day out. There is an exciting RLNI helicopter display, chef demos, dance, and plenty more.

Also, enjoy all that Looe has to offer, in this traditional Cornish fishing town. There is plenty to do including shops, a harbour and food.

9. Visit one of Cornwall’s GardensTrebah Garden, Falmouth

See one of Cornwall’s gardens in full bloom. Cornwall has many a beautiful garden to visit and there is no better time than summer. Trebah is beautiful in bloom, just outside of Falmouth. Trebah is a valley bursting with exotic blooms, leading down to the garden’s very own secluded beach on the Helford River. Nearby Glendurgan is also worth a visit with a maze and a sheltered beach.

Not forgetting The Lost Gardens of Heligan, they were left unseen until twenty-five years ago, under a tangle of weeds, and are now completely restored. This huge garden is a brilliant place for kids who will love running wild.

10. The Great Estate Festival, Scorrier House, 2nd – 4th of June

This garden fete takes place in the mystical grounds of Scorrier House. There will be camel racing, secret gin gardens, along with many music acts. Acts include Echo and the Bunnymen, Electric Swing Circus, and more.

Glitz, glamour and risqué happenings await at Madame Wong’s House of Wrong, with cabaret, burlesque, and fire dancing.

There is a wellness centre, with hot tubs, reiki, tarot reading, yoga, crystal healing and massage available.

There will be Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair with stalls housing everything from the 50s – 80s.

All children are catered for with toddlers through to teens, the Playground is a fun packed area with rides, bouncy castles, face painting and more.
