Boardmasters in Newquay1. Boardmasters, Fistral and Watergate Bay in Newquay, 9th – 13th of August

This is the event of the year in Newquay, with the headline acts attracting massive crowds. Boardmasters is a fun festival that celebrates surf, skate and music. The surfing and skating side of the festival is held at surfers’ heaven Fistral Beach, and the music side of the festival is held overlooking Watergate Bay, with fantastic views and a brilliant vibe.

Go down to Fistral and have a look at the trade stalls and surf and skate competitions, which is completely free. You will certainly get swept up in the buzzing atmosphere. The Watergate Bay event is ticketed, with day tickets available. Acts include Irish rock band Two Door Cinema Club, alternative rock band The Flaming Lips, indie rockers The Vaccines, 90’s sensation Jamiroquai, indie rockers Alt-J, and English grime and hip-hop artist Stormzy, who are just some of the great acts featuring at Boardmasters 2017.

2. Falmouth Week, 4th – 13th of August

This is one of the most prominent sailing regattas in the South West, with yachts, from many classes, racing over eight days. This is a lively event, which all the family will enjoy. There are shore side events too with themed parties, arts market and family entertainment.

3. Firework Spectaculars at Flambards, 7th – 31st of August

Flambards is Cornwall’s biggest theme park, with a range of exciting rides, including a rollercoaster and log flume, along with other rides for all ages. There are also play parks and a step back in time Victorian and Blitz village. This August the park has even more reason to be visited with a spectacular firework display on in the evening.

4. Padstow Seafood and Beer Festival, 12th of August

Padstow is a foodie heaven, and this festival gives you a chance to enjoy seafood at its best and most authentic. Hosted in aid of The National Lobster Hatchery, at the beautiful Prideaux Place in Padstow. There will be live music and beer too.

5. Fowey Regatta and Carnival Week, 13th – 19th of AugustFowey Regatta

The usually tranquil town of Fowey attracts thousands of visitors for this fantastic event. There are exciting boat races, carnivals, fancy dress, live music, and an amazing display of the Red Arrows over the harbour.

6. Get Active Truro Festival, 14th – 18th of August

Cornwall’s capital hosts Go Active, a sports and activity event for all to enjoy – even if you aren’t sporty. This event is meant to be all about fun, and visitors will see Lemon Quay transformed into a sports and activity hub. Try new activities and have a go on inflatable sports equipment. You can see some fantastic demonstrations from local sports people.

7. Lusty Glaze Beach Annual Tag Rugby Tournament, 25th – 27th of August

Lusty Glaze is a host to many a fantastic event, music and sporting, with this one being one of the highlights of the year. This weekend enjoy great rugby, with a one day tournament on Friday followed by a two day tournament on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, there will be a trophy presentation with live music and a firework display.

8. Cornwall Folk Festival, Wadebridge, 25th – 28th of August

Cornwall folk festival brings the best folk acts to Cornwall preforming at various venues all over Wadebridge. Acts include Cocos Lovers, Dalla, and 3 Daft Monkeys.

9. Newlyn Fish Festival, 28th of August

Newlyn is a busy, major, and fully functioning fishing port, where one can witness a real Cornish working fishing village and all the characters that come with it! This August celebrate by attending the festival with the best seafood on offer, along with cooking demonstrations, bouncy castles and face-painting. The festival helps raise money for the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen.

10. Octopus Treasure Trail at Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium, 17th – 31st of August

Blue Reef is in the centre of town right on the promenade above Towan Beach. Kids will love seeing a range of colourful, and weird and wonderful, sea creatures at the Reef. This August help the Reef’s Octopus find her mislaid treasure. There will be family passes and prizes up for grabs.
